Sources and accuracy

54 countries today. 33 compared with official government sources so far; the rest follow the open-source dataset and are labelled that way.

How the dates are built

Dates come from python-holidays 0.106, an open-source library whose country rules cite the law or official calendar they follow. We build static tables for 2024–2035 from it (generated 2026-10-15) and refresh them every week. Holiday names are shown as the source gives them, in the local language and in English, without machine translation.

Where we find that an official source disagrees with the dataset, we correct it in an override file that records the source, and tell the dataset's maintainers.

Statuses

Verified every date we compared matches an official source (date and source shown on the country page).

Verified with caveats matches, with a stated limit: for example only some regions were checked, or a year is not yet published.

Dataset only not yet compared with an official calendar.

“Estimated” dates follow a lunar or religious calendar and can move by a day when announced.

Known limits

Municipal and local holidays (Spain, Portugal, Italy and others set them town by town) are included only where the dataset models them. Days an authority decrees at short notice, such as bridge days, may be missing until it announces them. Working Saturdays that swap with a holiday (China) are not stored. Years after the next are calculated by rule, not announced.

Questions

Good to know

Can I rely on a date for payroll or travel?

Use it to plan, and confirm with the official source linked on the country's row or page before you commit, especially for holidays that follow the moon and for the years an authority has not announced yet.

How often is the data updated?

Weekly: a job refreshes the open-source data and rebuilds the site when anything changed. Official corrections we find sooner are applied by hand.
