Is it a day off?
A public holiday across Poland: most employees have the day off.
In 2028 it falls on a Monday, a working day.
Fixed date: it is on the same day of the year every year (1 May).
Saturday and Sunday · A public holiday does not always close every business. Essential services, shops and some industries keep working, and pay rules differ by country and contract.
National Day
National Day is a generic name, and the holiday it describes is different in each country. Among the countries covered on this site it includes France on 14 July, which commemorates the storming of the Bastille in 1789 and the Fête de la Fédération of 1790; Spain on 12 October, the Fiesta Nacional de España, which recalls the arrival of Columbus in the Americas in 1492; Switzerland on 1 August, which refers to the Federal Charter traditionally dated to 1291; and Austria on 26 October, which marks the 1955 law on Austrian neutrality.
Belgium observes its National Day on 21 July, the day in 1831 when Leopold I took the oath as the first king of the Belgians. Hungary's national celebration on 15 March remembers the revolution of 1848. In other countries a national day may be a head of state's birthday, an independence anniversary or a patron saint's feast. For this reason the date, meaning and customs have to be checked for the specific country; the parades, concerts, flag displays and fireworks that typify many of them are not universal. The variety is wide.
